About CSIS

Americas Program

Canada

Overview

Canada and the United States have together shared a geographical space for two hundred years in a relationship that is familiar, mutually beneficial, and often mutually discomfiting. Canada is by far the largest U.S. trading partner and a key strategic ally, and CSIS is the leading U.S. research institution to have established a permanent unit devoted to new thinking, strategic insight and practical solutions for relations with Canada in the context of the immediate U.S. regional neighborhood. The CSIS Canada Project is dedicated to the study of Canada and the Canada-United States relationship, and to analyzing the process of deepening North American integration that is transforming them both and establishing the new dynamics of a continental economy.
