May 15 Central European Energy Forum
The Center for Strategic and International Studies, Friends of Slovakia (FOS), and American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR) held a luncheon roundtable event entitled "Central European Energy Security Forum." The event sponsored by Friends of Slovakia and American Friends of the Czech Republic was held on May 15 and the purpose wa to provide a forum to discuss the most important energy-related issues of the Central and Eastern European region, and focus mainly on the Visegrad group countries.
May 15 Congressional Forum on Islam: Islamic Radicalization in the West: The Homegrown Threat with Mitchell Silber
Mitchell Silber is the Director of both the NYPD Intelligence Division’s Analytic and Cyber Units. Previously, he served on the Strategic Intelligence Staff for the Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence for three years, where he was responsible for strategic threat assessments for the Intelligence Division as well as for developing and maintaining relationships with foreign police and intelligence agencies.

May 12 Science-Based Biodefense Analysis in an Uncertain World
Dr. Patrick Fitch delivered his first public presentation as Laboratory Director of the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center, a new high-containment biological facility nearing completion at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, MD.  In his presentation, Dr. Fitch discussed NBACC's role in the biosecurity community while providing some background information about how the Center's mission was shaped.  Dr. Fitch is introduced by Dr. Gerald Epstein, Senior Fellow for Science and Security in the CSIS Homeland Security Program.

May 8 Global and Domestic Developments and Prospects for the Turkish Economy
The meeting focused on prospects for the Turkish economy. It featured a presentation by Dr. Guven Sak, the Director of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) and a commentary by Dr. Baran Tuncer, a weekly columnist with Radikal.  The meeting was chaired by CSIS Turkey Project Director, Dr. Bulent Aliriza.
May 7 CSIS Press Briefing: President’s Trip to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt
The Center for Strategic & International Studies hosted a briefing for members of the media on the President’s upcoming trip to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The briefing was spearheaded by: Anthony Cordesman, CSIS Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy. Jon Alterman, director of the CSIS Middle East Program.
May 7 Afghanistan: America’s Longest War?
Richard Holbrooke, the chairman of the Asia Society and Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., spoke at CSIS. He delivered a speech entitled "Afghanistan: America’s Longest War?". The discussion was co-sponsored by the The Asia Society and CSIS. Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy Anthony Cordesman moderated a question and answer session following the speech.
May 6 Smart Power Speaker Series: "Superclass and Futurecast: A Conversation on Globalization"
Who are the new leaders influencing economic and political agendas around the world?  What will life be like in America, Europe, Japan, or China in the year 2020?  Which countries will dominate the course of globalization?  CSIS was pleased to host David Rothkopf, President and CEO of Garten Rothkopf and Visiting Scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Robert Shapiro, Chairman of Sonecon LLC and former Undersecretary of Commerce, for a discussion on globalization.
