The Caucasus Initiative of the Russia and Eurasia Program hosted Nino Burjanadze, Chairwoman of Georgia's Parliament on March 20, 2007.  More than three years after the Rose Revolution, Georgia continues to consolidate its democratic institutions and deepen its cooperation with NATO, despite ongoing challenges of Georgian-Russian relations and internal conflicts.  This event offers a timely update on Georgia's domestic and foreign policy goals and challenges.

Nino Burjanadze has been Chairwoman of the Georgian Parliament since November 2001.  A key participant in Georgia's Rose Revolution, Burjanadze served as the Interim President of Georgia from November 2003 - January 2004.  Ms. Burjanadze has been a parliamentary deputy since 1995.  Before being elected chairwoman, she served as head of the Committee on Constitutional, Legal Affairs, and Rule of Law and the Committee on Foreign Relations.  She has also served as a Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.  Before entering politics, she was a professor in the Department of International Relations and International Law, Tbilisi State University.  She is the author of more than 20 articles in Georgian, English, and Russian and has published a monograph on law and international organizations.  Ms. Burjanadze received law degrees from Tbilisi State University and Moscow Lomonosov State University.
