Dr. Lawrence Jones, Account Executive for Automation Information System Business Unit, Areva T&D, discussed smart transmission and distribution technologies for a clean environment and secure electricity infrastructure.
In this session, Dr. Lawrence Jones focused on the intrinsic link between climate change, electricity networks and national security. His presentation emphasized climate change as a catalyst for major transitions in energy markets and transformation in the electricity industry. The session identified how uncertainties about expected climate change legislation present both challenges and opportunities for electric utilities and Wall Street. Dr. Jones also discussed the "Smart Grid” as a system that optimizes energy delivery and consumption by deploying advanced sensors, information, communications and control technologies, as well as utilizing advances in material science in the design of information-enabled equipment across the entire energy value chain. Finally, Dr. Jones offered thoughts on how smart grid technologies will change the way electric power is produced, delivered and consumed; it will help mitigate the risks and impacts of climate change and improve resiliency of electricity networks.
