Ibrahim A. Gambari has served as the United Nations' undersecretary-general for political affairs since July 1, 2005. In a recent Washington Times opinion piece, Secretary Gambari reflected on the issue of U.N. peace brokering, one of the many issues discussed at the recent U.N. World Summit. The Statesmen's Forum provided Secretary Gambari with an opportunity to discuss efforts underway to bolster U.N. capacity for brokering peace settlements and for assisting other third parties engaged in conflict mediation around the world.
