The CSIS Biotechnology Initiative held a discussion session on avian influenza preparedness and assuring the continued operation of critical banking and financial services. Speakers described the ways in which a pandemic could cause major disruptions that are significantly different from business continuity disruptions associated with natural disasters or terrorism; addressed sector-specific regulatory, liability, and other preparedness issues; and discussed the potential impact on markets, financial stability, and macroeconomic issues.
