The CSIS Freeman Chair in China Studies, the Brookings Institution's Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies and the Institute for National Policy Research co-sponsored an all-day event on "Consolidating Taiwan’s Democracy." Speakers included Dr. Carl Gershman, president of the National Endowment for Democracy; Dr. John Kuan, vice-chairman of the Kuomintang; and Dr. Lai I-Chung, director of Department of China Affairs of the Democratic Progressive Party.
