Luis Rubio is president of CIDAC (Center of Research for Development) in Mexico City, an independent research institution devoted to the study of economic and political issues. He is a prolific writer on political, economic, and international subjects. Before joining CIDAC, he was planning director of Citibank in Mexico and served as an adviser to Mexico’s secretary of the treasury. He has served on the boards of the Mexico Equity and Income Fund and of the Central European Value Fund and is a former member of the boards of Banamex and Banco Obrero. He also served in the board of the Human Rights Commission of the Federal District in Mexico and is member of the Trilateral Commission. Mr. Rubio is a contributing editor of Reforma, and his analyses and opinions often appear in major newspapers and journals in Mexico, the United States, and Europe. In 1993, he was given the Dag Hammarksjold Award and in 1998 the National Journalism Award for op-ed pieces. He is author or editor of 38 books, including Mexico's Dilemma: The Political Origins of Economic Crisis; Political Reform: Necessary Component of Modernity; Sovereignty and Free Trade; and Políticas Económicas del México Contemporáneo. He holds a diploma in financial management, and his M.A. and Ph.D. are from Brandeis University in Massachusetts.
