Janusz Bugajski is director of the CSIS New European Democracies Project and senior fellow with the CSIS Europe Program. He previously served as a senior research analyst for Radio Free Europe in Munich and as a consultant on Central-East European affairs for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of Defense, the International Republican Institute, the Free Trade Union Institute (of the AFL-CIO), the International Research and Exchange Board, and BBC television in London.

 

Bugajski’s recent publications include Atlantic Bridges: America’s New European Allies, with Ilona Teleki, (Rowman & Littlefield, 2007); Kosova Rising: From Occupation to Independence (Koha, 2006); and Cold Peace: Russia’s New Imperialism (Praeger, 2004). He has published articles in numerous journals and newspapers in the United States and Europe. In 1994, he was selected for inclusion by Gale Research in Contemporary Authors, and, in 1998, he received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the U.S. Department of State, USAID, U.S. Information Agency, and the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency in recognition of his contribution to international affairs. He chairs the South Central Europe Area Studies program for U.S. Foreign Service Officers at the Foreign Service Institute and has testified before various congressional committees, including the Helsinki Commission, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and the House Defense Appropriations Committee. Bugajski holds an M. Phil. in social anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
