Annette Hester is a senior associate with the William E. Simon Chair in Political Economy at CSIS and an economist, writer, and independent scholar. Previously, she was the founding director of the Latin American Research Centre at the University of Calgary. In that capacity, she conducted research on negotiations for the Free Trade Area of the Americas, Canada-Brazil trade and relations, the international agriculture trade framework, the oil and gas regulatory environments in Canada and Latin America, and corporate social responsibility. She has extensive experience as a consultant, acting as liaison and developing international market strategies for leading oil, gas, and energy companies in Canada, North America, and Latin America, and providing consulting services to governmental agencies in several countries of the Americas, especially Brazil and Canada. Ms. Hester is the author of numerous articles published in Oil and Gas Journal, Estey Journal, and the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology and is a frequent contributor to a variety of newspapers including the Globe and Mail and the Calgary Herald. Ms. Hester has a master’s degree in economics and currently works in association with the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo and the Centre d’études interaméricaines at Université Laval. |
