Colonel Kevin Gordey graduated from Louisiana Technical University in 1988 with a B.A. in political science and also holds two master’s degrees, one in aeronautical operations management and one in military art and science. Col. Gordey’s military assignments have included combat tours in the Philippines, Southwest Asia, and assignments in the United States. He began his service as a navigator on the AC-130H Gunship with the 16th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida. His first combat tour was during Operation Desert Storm. He also participated in numerous operations, including Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, Operation Deliberate Force in Bosnia, Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. While at Hurlburt, he was also a special mission’s planner at the wing level and the command’s standardization and evaluation officer before becoming executive officer to the Air Force Special Operations Command Director of Operations. He then commanded the Tactical Air Control Party school house at Hurlburt Field, training over 280 combat forward air controllers. He completed Air Command and Staff College in residence at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and then was the special programs manager for the Pacific Command at Camp Smith, Hawaii. Returning to Hurlburt, he was the 1st Special Operations Wing chief of safety before being selected as the Air Force Special Operations commander’s executive officer. He is a master navigator with over 3,400 hours in the AC-130H and U model, C-130E, and the EC-130.
