Michael Galvin is president of Harrison Street Capital, a diversified private equity portfolio of real estate and venture capital companies. He was formerly president of Galvin Enterprises, Inc. (GEI) since 1992, which managed a venture capital portfolio of start-up and turn-around companies in the software, genetics, business services, and real estate segments. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Galvin served as assistant secretary of commerce for export administration in the Bush administration, managing the U.S. government’s dual-use (non-munitions) strategic trade and technology transfer programs. During that time, he worked with the State and Defense Departments and with U.S. trade partners to reformulate and renegotiate major government policies affecting approximately $150 billion in annual U.S. export trade. From 1978 to 1989, he was an attorney with the law firm of Winston & Strawn, where he was elected a corporate finance transactions partner handling mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and bank financings, securities registrations, and other regulatory issues. He serves CSIS as a trustee, as a member of the Executive Committee, and as chairman of the Finance Committee. He received a bachelor of science in economics, cum laude, from Boston College and a juris doctor, cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law. |
