William A. Schreyer

Chair, Executive Committee
William A. Schreyer is chairman emeritus of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. He was chairman of the board (1985-1993) and chief executive officer (1984-1992). He served as vice chairman of the Board of the New York Stock Exchange (1987-1990) and was a leader of stock exchange delegations to the former Soviet Union and to the People's Republic of China to encourage the development of securities markets there. Mr. Schreyer is a director and member of the executive committee of AEA Investors Inc. and a director of its portfolio company Marbo, Inc. He serves CSIS as trustee, international councillor, Executive Committee member, and Finance Committee member. Other affiliations include the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, Institute for Advanced Study (Mathematics Institute Oversight Board), Medical Center at Princeton Foundation, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation. Mr. Schreyer has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, The Pennsylvania State University, since 1986 and as chairman (1993-1996). He became trustee emeritus in 1998. He also serves as a member of its Smeal College of Business Administration Board of Visitors. In 1997, the Schreyers endowed the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State. Mr. Schreyer initiated Merrill Lynch's unique Scholarship Builder Program in 1988, a trust that covers higher education costs for 250 economically disadvantaged grade school children in 10 cities throughout the United States.
