A Brazilian lawyer and administrator, educated in Brazil, the Netherlands, and the United States (Harvard M.P.A., 1959; LL.M., 1966), Georges Landau has practiced law in Rio de Janeiro and BrasÃlia and been an adviser to several Brazilian cabinet ministers including the minister for external relations. Mr. Landau spent 27 years as an international civil servant, mostly in Washington, D.C., with the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Development Bank, serving as European representative for the latter, based in Paris, from 1983 through 1989. Subsequently, he served as a consultant to the United Nations and the World Bank, with assignments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He returned to Brazil in 1992 as president of Hill and Knowlton do Brasil, the local subsidiary of the international public affairs firm, and in late 1994, he started his own firm, Prismax Consulting, specializing in government relations for foreign companies operating in Brazil. Mr. Landau has taught international economic relations for many years at universities in Brazil, the United States, and Italy and has contributed articles on law, politics, economics, and foreign affairs to a variety of journals in Latin America, the United States, and Europe. He is a board member of the Foundation for Foreign Trade Studies and the U.S.-Brazil Business Council. In addition, since 1998, he has been, regional director of Menas Associates for Brazil and the Mercosul countries and is the editor of its monthly newsletter Brazil Focus. |
