Milena Staneva

Project Manager and Research Associate, New European Democracies Project
Milena Staneva is a project manager and research associate with the New European Democracies Project, formerly the Eastern Europe Project, at CSIS. She provides research and writing support to ongoing projects, handles the planning and coordination of events, and assists in the management of the project’s external relationships and contacts. Ms. Staneva is the editor of Select Briefing, a weekly publication that highlights news in the new EU member states. She is also a regular contributor to the project’s analytical newsletters, Europe East, Wider Europe, and U.S.-Montenegro Policy Brief. Her research focuses on political, security, and economic issues affecting Central and Eastern Europe, including military reform, organized crime, energy, Western Balkan developments, and EU enlargement issues. In addition, she is a weekly commentator on Radio America’s foreign policy talk show Battle Line. Ms. Staneva holds a B.A. in international studies, with a minor in economics, from Miami University, and an M.A. in public administration from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is also pursuing a master’s degree in international policy and practice from George Washington University. She speaks Bulgarian, Russian, and German.
