Charles Vollmer is the president and CEO of VII Inc. and PointOne Inc. specializing in strategic planning, systems engineering, and management consulting. Vollmer is a newly appointed Advisory Board member of CSIS. As a CSIS senior associate over the last decade, he was involved in numerous foreign and domestic initiatives as well as a diplomatic mission to North Korea to visit dictator Kim Il-Sung. He is on the Board of Directors for the newly established Center for Religion and Diplomacy that is dedicated to international peacemaking via a network of worldwide religious leaders and diplomats. Prior to his current responsibilities, Vollmer was a partner at Booz·Allen & Hamilton, and before that cofounder of the Community Learning and Information Network that is currently installing several hundred distance learning sites across the United States. Vollmer led corporate activities for the U.S. Air Force and was involved in development of the Global Engagement Vision. As a vice president of General Dynamics Corporation, he founded the Defense Initiative Organization. At McDonnell Douglas, as an engineer, he was on the initial design teams for the F-15E and Stealth fighter aircraft. As a director of marketing, he was largely responsible for the $30 billion sale of the F-15E. In service with the USAF and Air National Guard, he received six Distinguished Flying Crosses and eleven Air Medals. He received degrees from the Air Force Academy and Northern Arizona University and attended MIT's Sloan School for Senior Executives.
