Katharine Mitchell is a research associate in the CSIS International Security Program, where she analyzes the international security environment and its impact on foreign, defense, and security policy as part of the Beyond Goldwater-Nichols project on defense reform. Prior to joining CSIS, she held internships at the U.S. Department of State. In 2005, she worked in the Bureau of Nonproliferation on the team responsible for formulating and articulating U.S. and EU policy toward Iran’s nuclear program. Two years earlier, she served in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, where she coordinated cooperative threat reduction policy and implementation with the Department of Defense and within the State Department. She also reviewed and cleared export control and border security assistance program actions conducted in Central Asia and the Caucasus and provided office approval for defense export licensing of defense-related and dual-use equipment and information proposed for transfer or sale to the former Soviet states. Ms. Mitchell holds a B.A. in government from the College of William and Mary and an M.A. in security studies from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. |
