William H. Siefken is a senior associate with both the New European Democracies Project and the Defense Industrial Initiatives Group at CSIS. Prior to his retirement in 2007, he was director for Central/Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Corporate International Business Development, Lockheed Martin Corporation. Before his career in private industry, he served in the Foreign Service for 28 years with the U.S. Department of State, where he was assigned to the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (deputy director for EUCOM and CENTCOM during Desert Shield/Desert Storm), Bureau of African Affairs (desk officer for multiple Central African countries), and Bureau of Intelligence and Research (special assistant to the director of the bureau and European regional security affairs analyst). He was also assigned twice to the Pentagon (Office of the Secretary of Defense and Office of the Undersecretary of the Air Force for International Affairs) and to posts in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Mr. Siefken holds a B.A. in international studies from the University of Texas and did post-graduate work at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. |
