CLINTON, MCCAIN, OBAMA, AND EDWARDS CAMPAIGN FOREIGN POLICY REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS ISSUES AT ST. ANSELM COLLEGE

CSIS Commission on Smart Power

Synopsis:

WASHINGTON, December 11, 2007 – The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) Commission on Smart Power, the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, and the New Hampshire World Affairs Council, will host a foreign policy roundtable this evening with campaign representatives of the Clinton, Obama, Edwards and McCain campaigns. The campaign reps will discuss, “How America Can Become a Smarter Power: Does it Matter at Home if They Don’t Like Us Abroad?”

The discussion will be moderated by WMUR Channel 9’s Fred Kocher. The event will take place on, wit Tuesday, December 11 at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics Auditorium at Saint Anselm College (100 Saint Anselm Drive, Manchester, NH) with a reception beginning at 5:30 pm and the program beginning at 6:30 pm.

The conference will feature introductory remarks by Joseph S. Nye, Jr., Distinguished Service Professor at Harvard University. Dr. Nye’s remarks will followed by a roundtable discussion featuring Lee Feinstein of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Dan Twining of the John McCain’s campaign, Susan Rice Barack Obama’s campaign, as well as a representative from John Edward’s campaign.

This event will be held in conjunction with the CSIS Commission on Smart Power, which is chaired by Joseph Nye and former deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage. The CSIS Commission released a report November 6 on revitalizing America’s image and influence in the world through the effective integration of “hard power,” – our military might – with “soft power,” – our ability to wield influence through attraction and persuasion.
