WASHINGTON -- President Bush leaves today for an ambitious Middle East trip, hoping to rally oil-rich Gulf states around his efforts to isolate Iran.

"We need a lot more coordination on Iran with the Gulf states than I think we have," said Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"The Gulf states can seriously undermine U.S. efforts to isolate Iran."
