Prices at the gas pump hit new heights Tuesday, with government forecasters warning they could top $4 a gallon in some markets this year.

Consumers' other energy costs — electricity, natural gas and home heating oil — are likewise expected to reach or approach record levels in 2008, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Tuesday.

"It's going to be a tough year," said Frank Verrastro, a former Pennzoil executive who now directs the energy program at Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies.
