BOGOTA -- Colombian troops tricked rebels into freeing politician Ingrid Betancourt and three Americans in a bold but bloodless jungle rescue that dealt a severe blow to Latin America's oldest left-wing insurgency.

"There's always the possibility that they will be more violent," said Johanna Mendelson-Forman, analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. "The biggest challenge for them now is to keep what they have."
