About the Global Strategy Institute
The GLOBAL STRATEGY INSTITUTE at CSIS is dedicated to promoting long-range thinking about the big global issues that loom before us. The Institute seeks to encourage a creative and far-sighted outlook at a time when short-term pressures on leadership are all the more onerous, the complexities of decision-making all the more daunting, and the challenge of expanding planning horizons all the more difficult. The mandate of the Institute is twofold:

First, it is a research center on longer-range global trends. To that end, the Institute carries out research, hosts seminars and conferences, and generates publications and presentations aimed at assessing the longer-range forces shaping political, economic, and social trends across the world. It takes the 50,000-foot view by assessing the strategic forces at work and how those forces interact.

Second, the Institute is an executive education initiative designed to meet the growing interests and needs of senior business, academic, and government leaders in the post-911 global environment by linking them to the ideas and people of CSIS. It is dedicated to providing custom executive education programs by drawing on the thinking and experience of the internationally-recognized experts at CSIS. It seeks to connect the cutting-edge thinking at CSIS with the world of leaders—current and future. In both these ways, the Institute seeks to promote strategic thinking among leaders across the world, raising the level of understanding on looming global challenges, engaging the best possible thinkers in discussion on longer-range trends, and—in the process—helping shape a better and brighter future.
