CSIS offers regular opportunities for staff and interns to volunteer their time helping the DC area community. CSIS employees from a wide variety of programs have spent weekday mornings and Saturday afternoons participating in these activities, which contribute to improving the greater CSIS neighborhood and provide a chance for colleagues to get to know each other informally.
 
Past events have included:
- Serving breakfast to the homeless at S.O.M.E (So Others Might Eat) in Washington, DC
- Assisting with home building at Habitat for Humanity in Burtonsville, Maryland
- Stuffing care packages for US troops at the USO (United Service Organization) in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia
