Human Trafficking and Peacekeeping Operations
The vast majority of uniformed service members and civilian contractors serve honorably. Yet they are being tainted by the minority of peacekeepers who purchase sex with trafficked women and girls and by the even smaller group who actively engage in the grave human rights abuse of human trafficking -- whether for forced labor or prostitution. When peacekeepers commit or facilitate human rights abuses, they prolong deployments and undermine missions. This initiative engages the policy community, both raising awareness about the links between all forms of human trafficking and peacekeeping operations and advocating for the comprehensive implementation of policies adopted by the Department of Defense, NATO, and the United Nations in 2004.
