President Hu Jintao's Trip to the United States
|
Chinese President Hu Jintao met with everyone from President Bush to Bill Gates on his trip to the United States in April. Trade, oil, North Korea's and Iran's nuclear plans, and copyright protection were but a few of the issues competing for space on the crowded agenda. CSIS and the Institute for International Economics have published China: The Balance Sheet. The book, which is now available for purchase, is part of a larger collaboration between the two think tanks. It was officially released Monday, April 17, with a panel discussion with the authors at the National Press Club. Audio from the event is available here. -

Back to top Kurt Campbell has served in several capacities in government, including as deputy assistant secretary of defense for Asia and the Pacific in the Pentagon. Robert Ebel is chairman of the CSIS Energy Program. He served with the CIA for 11 years and spent over 7 years with the Office of Oil and Gas in the Department of the Interior. Bates Gill is a specialist in East Asian foreign policy and politics. He holds CSIS's Freeman Chair in China Studies and is a co-author of China: The Balance Sheet. Bonnie Glaser is a senior associate in the International Security Program. She has served as a consultant on Asian affairs since 1982 for the Department of Defense, the Department of State, Sandia National Laboratories, as well as other agencies of the U.S. government. Michael Green is a senior adviser at CSIS and holder of the Japan Chair. He served as special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for Asian affairs at the National Security Council. Carola McGiffert helps manage Asia projects for CSIS's International Security Program, with a focus on Northeast Asian security issues. She served in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where she worked on the China World Trade Organization negotiating team. Derek Mitchell, a senior fellow at CSIS and a co-author of China: The Balance Sheet. He was special assistant for Asian and Pacific affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 1997 to 2001.
