Pursuing a Comprehensive Vision for the U.S.-ROK Alliance
South Korean president Lee Myung-bak has pledged to prioritize the alliance relationship with the United States, an initiative that has been widely welcomed in Washington.  The task of envisioning a deeper and more comprehensive political and security partnership between the two governments will require a comprehensive approach that extends well beyond the alliance as it has traditionally been defined.

This study will identify and develop a comprehensive framework for developing and expanding bilateral cooperation between the United States and South Korea to meet long-term global challenges likely to influence Asia’s strategic future.  The study will focus on identifying and developing cooperative approaches beyond traditional security issues usually addressed by the security alliance.  The final report will serve as a resource beyond the political transition periods in both capitals.
