The Republican Revolution breaks out in Wuchang on October 10, 1911 and quickly spreads over China. On January 1, 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen proclaims the founding of the Republic of China (ROC). Dr. Sun is made the provisional president before being forced to abdicate by the warlord Yuan Shi-kai, plunging China into a period of warlordism.
