On January 2, 1955, as hostilities over several offshore islands continue, PRC premier Zhou Enlai refuses a United Nations Security Council invitation to discuss a cease-fire. Days before PRC forces take over Dachen Islands on February 11, the U.S. Seventh Fleet begins to evacuate KMT occupants off the islands.
