Cheng Chen-kung (also known as Koxinga), the last general of the fallen Ming Dynasty, brings 25,000 men to invade Taiwan. His son, Cheng Ching, succeeds him and establishes the "Tungnin Kingdom" on the island. The younger Cheng fails to achieve recognition for Taiwan from the Qing Court on the mainland and is subsequently defeated in his attempt to overthrow the Qing Dynasty.
