In November 1979, the International Olympic Committee admits the PRC as the "Chinese" Olympic Committee, replacing the ROC. After some negotiation, Taiwan accepts to continue its Olympic membership under the name "Chinese Taipei." "Chinese Taipei" becomes the common term by which the island is able to participate in international organizations such as the forum for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the Asian Development Bank.
