Next America

Next_America_Logo

Next America seeks to engage future American leaders in a substantive foreign policy debate that will continue beyond November’s elections.
DEBATE your peers on U.S. foreign policy.
DECIDE on a grand strategy for the 21st Century.
CONNECT with tomorrow’s leaders at home and abroad.
Next America targets future leaders in their 20s who are well-positioned to think creatively about challenges that loom ahead. This generation shares a world view distinct from those who have come before. They are technologically savvy, comfortable operating in an interconnected world, and consider themselves both Americans and global citizens.

Young Americans are more engaged in the political process today than at any time in recent memory. Next America seeks to build on this momentum to help develop the next generation of foreign policy thinkers from the government, private sector, military, and civil society, and to challenge these emerging leaders to develop a common vision for tackling tomorrow’s toughest issues.

Debates will center on topics such as energy security and climate change, nuclear proliferation, global health and food insecurity, and America’s diminished standing and competitiveness abroad. Next America’s website will facilitate an online debate on a series of critical global challenges facing America and the world. The site will launch in July 2008.

Next America’s Summit in January 2009 will feature Next America members alongside current, former and future foreign policy decision-makers. The summit will take the form of a series of Congressional hearings on Capitol Hill.

Next America is an initiative of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a bipartisan think tank in Washington, D.C. For more information about Next America, please contact its Director, Elizabeth Sullivan, at esullivan@csis.org or 202.775.3263.
