Continuing tensions with Iran, North Korea, and Pakistan on nuclear issues, and changing political and security dynamics involving key actors such as China, India, Japan, and Taiwan present new challenges and point to a potential reordering of the regional dynamic in the years ahead.

CSIS’s Freeman Chair in China Studies, Japan Chair, South Asia Program, Asian Security Group, and Pacific Forum (based in Hawaii) each focus on the domestic affairs and international relations of countries throughout Asia.
The Russia and Eurasia Program considers issues related to the central Asian states.
The HIV/AIDS Task Force considers the impact of the disease on the second-wave states of China and India.
The Burke Chair in Strategy provides estimates of the military balance in Asia and analyzes trends in regional military forces.
