Russia and Eurasia Program

Caucasus Initiative

The Caucasus Initiative focuses on the three countries of the southern Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Situated between Russia, Turkey, and Iran, and astride transit routes for Caspian hydrocarbons and trade routes between Europe and Central Asia, these states occupy an increasingly important geographical and geostrategic position. Under the direction of Cory Welt, the program conducts seminars and research on topics including democracy and institution building, conflict resolution, and economic and energy-related development.

See the Chechnya and the North Caucasus page for North Caucasus-related program work and information.
