The Future of Market Capitalism in Latin America: Conclusions from Case Studies of Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, and Chile CSIS is undertaking a study on “The Future of Market Capitalism in Latin America” which is examining the solidity of the current economic model among the political leadership and other groups in the four largest Latin American economies: Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Venezuela; and in Chile, the most successful in terms of sustained economic growth over a decade. Working with think tanks or universities in each of the five countries, CSIS will analyze current policy options, while assessing likely policy trends during the next decade. The conclusions about the five countries examined will be used to generalize more broadly about Latin America and the Caribbean. These recommendations will be disseminated through working group participants and a “Significant Issue Series” book written by Sidney Weintraub. Energy Cooperation in the Western Hemisphere: Benefits and Impediments CSIS has recently completed a study of the challenges and opportunities for forging cooperative understandings in the Americas. Is there a model for Western Hemisphere energy cooperation? How would individual countries and the hemisphere as a whole benefit from cooperative understandings for hemispheric oil and natural gas? What impediments exist to creating a cooperative agreement and how can the region overcome them? And finally, what will be the consequences of not adopting a plan for energy cooperation in the Americas? These questions and more are tackled by CSIS experts in Energy Cooperation in the Western Hemisphere: Benefits and Impediments.
