The Rise of Islamic Neoradicalism in the Netherlands
The General Intelligence and Security Service of the Netherlands (AIVD) will discuss findings from their recently released report: The Radical Dawa in Transition: The Rise of Islamic Neoradicalism in the Netherlands. In considering the development of radical Islam within the Netherlands and Europe, the AIVD has identified three distinct phases. The most recent phase in this development, dubbed Islamic Neoradicalism, eschews violent jihad and instead threatens democratic legal order via intolerant isolationism and the rejection of democratic openness and pluriformity. The report’s authors will be on hand to discuss the study and its implications in The Netherlands and the rest of Europe. Tom Sanderson, Deputy Director of CSIS’ Transnational Threats Project, will moderate the discussion. The AIVD report will be provided to all guests at the conclusion of the roundtable.
