Elevating India's Higher Education
October 7, 2011
India is today one of the world's largest and most dynamic emerging economies. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently stated that India can sustain 8-9% growth over the next 30 years. With only half its 1.2 billion population under the age of 25, this economic growth should be sustainable. However, without more quality institutions of higher education and greater investment in skills development and vocation education, it will not be.
Accordingly, education jumped to the top of the U.S. – India bilateral agenda this month when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and India’s Minister of Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal, convened the first-ever U.S. - India Higher Education Summit in Washington.
