Happy Thanksgiving Smile
With apologies to our international readers, The Evening CSIS will be off for
America’s Thanksgiving holiday and will resume publication on Monday.

But we leave you with a Thanksgiving Smile. 39 years ago tomorrow, The Band performed “The Last Waltz,” their final concert. Filmed in the ornate Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, “The Last Waltz” is immortal due to the brilliant documentary that chronicles the performance by Martin Scorsese.

On November 25, 1976, starting at 5:00 PM, the audience of 5,000 in attendance was served turkey dinners. Then, at 9:00 PM, The Band opened the show with a blistering version of their classic, “Up On Cripple Creek.” This is one of the greatest, most energetic, single moments in rock history as the late drummer/vocalist Levon Helm propelled The Band forward into their final farewell. Levon and the boys sure went out with style and left us with the ultimate Thanksgiving Day Smile.

Happy Thanksgiving!
