Iraq War Note: The Changing Role of Airpower

The role of airpower continues to be critical, but it is changing. ABC’s Brian Hartman has obtained statistics for the total air effort through Tuesday, April 1, that describe the Coalition air effort as follows:

• 25,000 sorties flown
• 29.6 million gallons of fuel pumped into planes on refueling mission
• 33,000 short tons of cargo moved by aircraft
• 43,000 passengers moved since 10/02
• 33 million leaflets dropped (apparently different than what centcom says... but these are the numbers being turned out by the Air Force)
