Kerry's Clarion Call on Climate Change

U.S. - India Insight: July 2013

Recently, Secretary of State John Kerry attended the fourth annual U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi.  It was the first year that the dialogue was led by Secretary Kerry and his counterpart, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.  The dialogue is meant to cover the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship and Kerry used the occasion to place high on the agenda an issue he has long championed – climate change. Kerry spoke with a sense of urgency, noting that an inability to meet our collective climate challenge would inhibit all countries’ dreams of growth and development.  His emphasis on facing the climate change challenge together, which was subsequently also highlighted in Vice President Biden’s remarks in India this week, is the subject of this month’s U.S.-India Insight.
