Monitoring the Implementation of the CPTPP's E-commerce Chapter: Proposed Tool Kit and Initial Assessment

Kati Suominen’s latest report highlights examples of lackluster implementation or potential outright violations of CPTPP members’ obligations and their potential implications. The data suggest that all CPTPP members can do better at implementing their commitments—and gain from a rigorous implementation in terms of trade opportunities and inbound investments. Strong implementation should certainly also encourage many of the aspiring and potential members to improve their legal and policy frameworks to conform to the CPTPP’s e-commerce provisions.
