Taking Stock of the Middle East in 2015

In this new edited volume from the CSIS Middle East Program, chapters analyze the region’s political, strategic, and economic realities in 2015, looking at both old and new challenges, how political actors are evolving, and how policymakers can think strategically about the region. Contributions include strategic analyses of the region’s politics and security in 2015; the future of Arab state power; the shifting fortunes of political Islamic movements in the wake of the Arab uprisings; the evolving roles of Iran, Egypt, and the world’s great powers in the region; the threat the Islamic State group poses to the West; the future of politics and security in the Maghreb; and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
