Searching for a Joint Vision for Economic Cooperation

The U.S.-India economic partnership has yet to see the same momentum as our bilateral security relationship. Beyond a vaguely-defined trade target and establishment of the first-ever U.S.-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue, economic cooperation continues to be stuck on diverging models of a Bilateral Investment Treaty and India’s persisting reticence to fully embrace global trade talks. In the new year, the United States and India should issue a roadmap detailing shared economic principles and a clear vision for deeper economic cooperation.
