Documentary Trailer: Foul Water Fiery Serpent
June 5, 2010
For thousands of years the Guinea worm parasite (Dracunculus medinensis) has caused disabling misery, infecting people who drink water contaminated with the worm’s larvae. In 1986 there were a reported 3.5 million cases of guinea worm. Due to the dedication of health workers and The Carter Center this number has significantly declined to a few thousand cases in Ghana and Sudan. The guinea worm eradication campaign is true public health success story.
Foul Water Fiery Serpent is a new documentary that follows Jimmy Carter (former U.S. president), The Carter Center, and determined teams of men and women as they fight the closing skirmishes in the global campaign that has nearly driven Guinea worm to final extinction. A cut of the film will be shown at the Global Health Council Conference this June. To watch a trailer of the film visit: www.foulwaterfieryserpent.com
