Podcasts: U.S.-Russia Collaboration in the Health Sector

On January 31st, the CSIS Global Health Policy Center and Russia & Eurasia Program hosted an event on U.S.-Russia Collaboration in the Health Sector.  During the event, we captured many of the presenters opinions and analysis on the topic through a series of podcasts. 

 

Interview with Senator Bill Frist and Dr. Victor Boguslavsky on U.S.-Russia History on Health Collaboration

Interview with Senator Bill Frist, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and distinguished co-chair of the CSIS conference on U.S.-Russia Collaboration in the Health Sector, and Dr. Victor Boguslavsky, Associate Director for Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union with the USAID Health Improvement Project. Senator Frist and Dr. Boguslavsky discuss the history of U.S.-Russian collaborations in health and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

 

Interview with Dan Russell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eurasian and European Affairs on the reset in U.S.-Russian Relations

Interview with Dan Russell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eurasian and European Affairs. In this interview, Mr. Russell discusses the reset in U.S.-Russia relations and how global health is one area where the two countries can come together and make a real difference.

 

Interview with Ellen Ogden and David Bowen on the U.S.-Russian Collaboration to Eradicate Polio

Interview with Ellen Ogden, Global Polio Coordinator for USAID, and David Bowen, Deputy Director for Global Health Policy and Advocacy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Ms. Ogden and Mr. Bowen discuss the recent agreement signed between the U.S. and Russia to eradicate polio globally and what each country is bringing to the table to fight the disease.

 

Interview with Dmitry Yanin and Tim McAfee on the Challenges of Tobacco Control in Russia

Interview with Dmitry Yanin, Director of Regional Development for the International Confederation of Consumer Societies in Moscow, and Dr. Tim McAfee, Director of the Office on Smoking and Health for the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion within the CDC. Here,Mr. Yanin and Dr. McAfee talk about the challenges of tobacco control in Russia, a country with a high number of smokers. The two also discuss in what ways collaborative U.S.-Russian efforts can contribute to tobacco control efforts.

 

Interview with Elena Dmitrieva and Dr. Jonathan Klein on U.S.-Russia Healthy Lifestyle Promotion

Interview with Elena Dmitrieva, Director of the Health and Development Foundation in Moscow, and Jonathon Klein, Associate Executive Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Here, Ms. Dmitrieva and Dr. Klein discuss the importance of health lifestyles, programs centered on child health, and how U.S.-Russian collaborations can move these initiatives forward.
