Preparation: CSIS / CARE delegation to Kenya
August 4, 2009

The plane tickets are booked, passports are back from the Kenya Embassy, the briefing books were compiled this morning and our arms are sore from yellow fever vaccines. We’re ready to go to Kenya. What started is an amalgam of ideas 10 weeks ago is finally coming together. We considered visiting at least 100 different hospitals, clinics, community groups, labs and other health-related sites in Kenya. We visited some of them on an advance trip, spoke to U.S. counterparts, and even tested how long it takes to drive between locations. Whether it was deciphering government reports online or finding the right hotel for the delegation, partners both here and abroad have been enormously helpful. Our colleagues from both Blue State Digital and CARE will be helping us record our experiences and report from the ground. Keep an eye on this page to follow the trip with the Commission. Send us your questions, ideas of what to visit, and your own experiences of working in the field. Keep an eye on our special Kenya page to read dispatches from the Commissioners in the field. And please send us your questions, ideas for improving health in Kenya and East Africa, and your experience of working in the field.
Now we just need to figure out what to pack…
