Video: Spotlighting the NCD Problem

May 23, 2011

Created by Emma Curran and Julia Nagel

Rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have been rising in all countries.  NCDs are chronic diseases - such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes - and globally, these diseases account for 60% of deaths worldwide.  Nearly 80% of the world's chronic disease-related deaths occur in low- and middle- income countries.

In addition to the CSIS report, Getting the Politics Right for the September 2011 UN High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases, which put forth four propositions to help raise the prospects for sucess in September, the Global Health Policy Center created a short video explaining the rising chronic disease epidemic and the importance of the upcoming UN High Level Meeting.  We hope you share this video with your colleagues and friends in the days ahead to help us mark a turning point in the global fight against chronic disease.

We also want to hear from you!  We are currently running the second round of our blog contest on NCDs and our panel of experts will be answering questions in the months leading up to the UN High-Level Meeting.

Please submit any questions you have below.
