2006 PONARS Policy Conference
The annual Program on New Approaches to Russian Security (PONARS) Policy Conference, on December 8, 2006, at the Center for Strategic and International Studies was a daylong policy conference designed to promote greater interaction between members of the academic and policymaking communities working on Russia and Eurasia.
The conference followed the same format as in previous years but this conference, the 10th anniversary of PONARS, also marked the 15th anniversary of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. As an opportunity to take stock of the progress in the region we focused on current politics, economics, and security relations of Russia and other post-Soviet states, but did so by framing them in the context of the 15-year transformation from Soviet communism. To mark the 10th anniversary of PONARS, a reception followed the policy conference.
Each session began with brief presentations by PONARS panelists and allowed ample time for questions and dialogue among the participants and panel members.
