2012 PONI Spring Conference at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 12:00 pm -
Thursday, April 19, 2012 9:00 pm
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory 902 Battelle Blvd Richland, WA 99354

PONI will hold its first conference of the 2012 series on April 18th and 19th at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), which carries out research and technology development in order to counter the threat of nuclear terrorism, prevent proliferation, verify arms control regimes, and support other national security objectives.

The event will feature panel discussions focusing on a variety of topics related to nuclear strategy, nonproliferation policy, nuclear security, and arms control; keynote addresses by prominent experts in the field; technical briefings from PNNL scientists; and facility tours with hands-on demonstrations at the HAMMER training center. It will also include an evening reception and dinner for participants at the conclusion of day one (April 18th), and an afternoon reception following the conclusion of the conference on day two (April 19th). See the attached agenda for a detailed schedule of the conference.

Full presentations from the conference can be accessed here.

The Courtyard by Marriott, located at 480 Columbia Point Drive in Richland, WA, will serve as the host hotel for the event. Reservations can be made under the PONI conference room block online or by calling the hotel at (509) 942-9400.

The PONI Conference Series, now in its ninth year, offers an opportunity for rising experts in the field to present findings from their research in order to advance the broader discussion on nuclear weapons issues. It also seeks to provide a venue for interaction among people from different sectors and for mid-career and senior members of the community to mentor their junior counterparts. Last year’s series included three 2-day events at the Nevada National Security Site, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies respectively, and concluded with a year-end Capstone Conference hosted by U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska.
