The second conference of the 2013 PONI Series will be held on July 31 and August 1 at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hosted by one of the United States’ premier nuclear laboratories, the event will feature presentations by rising professionals in the field; a keynote address from Frank Rose, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Defense Policy; and technical talks by Sandia  nuclear experts. It will also include an evening reception and dinner for participants at the conclusion of day one (July 31) and a tour of Sandia’s Z Pulsed Power Faciltity, the largest X-ray generator in the world, on day two.

A draft conference program, including a schedule of presentations, selected speakers, and key events, is now available (click the link to the right).  Registration has now closed.

The Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel (2600 Louisiana Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110) will serve as the conference hotel and the pick-up/drop-off point for the conference shuttle.  The room block has now closed, but rooms may still be available outside of the PONI room block.

The PONI Conference Series, now in its tenth year, offers an opportunity for rising experts in the field to present findings from their research in order to advance the broader discussion on nuclear weapons issues. It also seeks to provide a venue for interaction among people from different sectors and for mid-career and senior members of the community to mentor their junior counterparts. This year’s series featured a conference at Northrop Grumman’s facilities at Hill AFB, Utah and will also include events at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC and U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, NE.
